The Maverick Story

Everyone dreams of achieving the American Dream; raising a family, growing a business, and achieving wealth. Jose “Pepe” Garcia has been chasing that dream since 1968, when his mother and 2 brothers first entered the United States via Miami, and eventually settled in Union City, New Jersey.pepe 1 Life as a young Cuban immigrant family was difficult for the Garcia’s, with Pepe’s mother working 3 jobs to support her sons, and the boys struggling to keep up with lessons in school because they were taught in English and the boys were not familiar with the language. In 1979, Pepe began studying Marketing at Seton Hall University by day, while cleaning a Newark office building by night. Upon graduation from Seton Hall, Pepe had rose to an Account Manager for the janitorial company he had worked for during his time in college. Realizing the immense room for growth and profit from the managerial side of janitorial services, Pepe set his sights a company to call his own.

With a $10,000 investment from his mother, 5 employees, and one client on the books, Maverick Building Services took flight.  Thanks in part to connections and contacts made during his time as an account executive, Maverick Building Services grew at an exuberant rate, adding clients in the real estate, transportation, medical, and commercial industries. The real estate boom of the 1980s created a major demand for janitorial services in new properties all throughout New Jersey and New York, and Pepe Garcia seized every opportunity to grow his company from a 5 man operation to a 200+ employee workforce that serves hundreds of accounts.

Determination and tenacity are what helped Pepe Garcia evolve from a young Cuban immigrant with no English-speaking skills to the owner of one of the most successful building services companies on the East Coast. Taking a cue from Tom Cruise’s “Maverick” character from the film Top Gun, Pepe continues to lead his team from the front of the pack. Clients rave about Pepe’s dedication to each project, and are always impressed to see him come out to perform audits on job sites himself. As the Maverick Building Services brand continues to grow, each employee carries on a piece of Pepe’s legacy, and displays those same traits Pepe did as they work each day.
